About the Circuit
The Grand Prix at the Monaco Circuit is the crown jewel of the Formula One calendar. It has been held on the streets of the principality, around the port area of Monte Carlo, since 1929. The circuit was the brainchild of millionaire cigarette manufacturer and Monaco resident Anthony Noghés. He devised a circuit that ran from Boulevard Albert I to Casino Square, returning to Monte Carlo station, exiting through the tunnel at Quai des Etats-Unis, before turning left at Quai Albert I, heading towards the gasometer and finally returning to the starting point.
Following successful events in 1930 and '31, changes came to the circuit for the 1932 race, held as the season-opener of the European Grand Prix.
In 1976, modifications were made at Rascasse and Ste Dévote to reduce speed.
Small changes were made to the Tabac corner for 2015, where the circuit was moved 2.5 meters closer to the port. That same year saw the debut of the FIA Formula E Championship in a short version of the Grand Prix.
