About the Circuit
Spa-Francorchamps was originally built as a 14.9-kilometre circuit using public roads, which made it extremely fast and dangerous. Due to several fatal accidents, the circuit was modified and reduced to 7.004 kilometres in 1979 to comply with safety standards.
Despite safety concerns, the circuit returned to Formula 1 in 1983, thanks to the efforts of the Automobile Club de Belgique and Jacky Ickx.
Spa-Francorchamps remains renowned for its length, iconic corners such as Eau Rouge and Radillon, and its reputation as a challenging and exciting circuit.
In summary, Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit with a complex history, marked by its original dangerousness and its ability to adapt in order to remain an iconic venue in Formula 1.
