About the club

• The FC Barcelona handball section was formed on 23 November 1943, although its origins date back to the 1930s..
• Initially, the game was played with eleven players on football pitches, but in the 1950s, the seven-a-side indoor version was adopted.
• The first successes came in the 1940s with championships in Catalonia and Spain.
• The opening of the Palau Blaugrana in 1969 facilitated the team's growth.
• The arrival of Valero Rivera in 1984 marked a golden age with multiple titles.
• Between 1987 and 1992, Barça won five consecutive leagues, achieving a total of nine Copa del Rey titles until 2000, and three consecutive Cups.
• Under his leadership, a record of five consecutive European Cups was set.
• Despite the changes in 2004, the team remained competitive, winning more titles under the leadership of Xavi Pascual and establishing itself as the most successful club in Spanish handball.
